It’s the day after Christmas and for many it means the last day off they have for the holidays. So off to the store they go to return, exchange (and in my case spend my gift cards). Here are a few tips to get your through the day:
- Make sure you have your gift card and any coupons that go to that store when you head out today.
- Hopefully the tags are still on your items or at the very least a gift receipt. Make sure those go with you too.
- Pack a small cooler with bottled water, pop, juice drinks for the kids or tea to help you make it through the stores without getting thirsty or having to buy extra items. A few snacks like fruit snacks and granola bars may help. Save the cookies for when you get home. If you are taking the kids the last thing you need is a sugar high.
- Check the stores return policy before you leave. Many stores offer a generous return policy during the holidays, while others are more likely to crack down harder. Did you hear the story about the guy who walked into Walmart “shopped” and returned his items? He actually stole them, but returning them to customer service before they were ever bought. It’s people like that that makes returns and exchanges harder for the rest of us.
- Look for the return desk in stores. Many have set up an extra one so that customer service and registers are not overwhelmed with holiday returns.
Here are some popular stores return policies so you can read them before you go.
