The Houston Zoo is an urban wildlife sanctuary where families can learn about and experience first- hand all that nature has to offer. During the holiday season, the Houston Zoo offers another attraction: Zoo lights. It is a holiday tradition and this year’s event promises to be larger than ever.
Lights for the Season
Zoo Lights is brought to you by Houston Zoo and TXU Energy and this year’s display will include more than 1 million lights! Guests can stroll along, past the giraffes, elephants, lions, and monkeys, while they take in the colorful, glowing, LED lights in assorted colors and designs.
Music and More
Zoo Lights is mostly about the lighting displays and guests will enjoy looking at the different patterns of lights, animal sculptures made with lights, and other creative displays. There will also be a new dollhouse village this year as well as “Holly Berry”, the 1957 vintage Cadillac featuring thousands of lights flashing in time with the holiday tunes.
When to Go
Zoo Lights will be on display to the public from November 22, 2013 through January 4, 2014, except for December 24 and December 25, when the zoo is closed. Houston Zoo members can partake in the Member Preview Nights from November 18 through November 21.
Zoo Lights is open each evening between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. with last entry at 9 p.m. The Zoo itself is open until 5 p.m. each day, closing for one hour before opening for the special Zoo Lights display.
