Tips to help you get back to school bargains and this week’s deals

Did you know that with back to school many parents spend hundreds of dollars?  Here are some tips to help you  save some money while doing your back to school shopping:

  • Purchase products as the summer rolls along.
  • Don’t want for Tax Free weekend – have you ever noticed that weekend prices on many popular back to school items go up?  Sure, as a store I would do that too as people come crowding in to save on tax.  But I have found that sometimes it means I actually spend more than I would the week or month before.
  • Budget it out.  Try to buy your back to school items when you find them on sale.  Budget out your purchases so it doesn’t hit you or your wallet all at once.

Here are some great deals I found this week (July 22)  to help you get started on your back to school shopping:

Toys R Us

BOGO Free All Crayons, Markers, Pencils and Paints at Toys R Us

Free lunch kit ($9.99 value) when you buy any backpack priced at $12.99 or higher.

Academy Sports and Outdoors

Look for 200 backpacks under $30.00 and prices start at $6.99!

Office Max

Did you pick up the Sunday paper?  HTere is a $5/$25 coupon on school supplies.  Look at the many $1 deals including scissors, notecards, pencil boxes, folders, sandwich bags (those are always on our list)

Target

Target is right across the street from Office Max and I’ll be heading there to pick up the .99 pens, glue sticks, and composition books.  When I can’t find BOGO (I have two in school) then dollar deals are the next best thing.  I also will be picking up the 1.00 construction paper (and getting an extra one for the house too!).  They also have a free lunch box with the purchase of backpack  - but the packpack is $22.00.

Office Depot

My favorites at Office Depot this week includes the .10 rulers, and protractors as well as .50 binders, glue sticks and correction tape (that one is for me).  Look for .49 composition books, folders and notebooks as well as $4 locker accessories!

CVS

If you are at CVS look for BOGO 50% off on school supplies.  This one is hard to tell if it is a good sale or not because prices vary.

Big Lots

Back to school supplies start at .30 for note cards, pencils, rulers and composition books.  Look for .49 pocket ply portfolio folders and 1.00 deals in erasers and mechanical pencils.

Walgreens

Stop and get the in store ad to get these deals – .19 Wexford Highlighter, .29 Wexford or Penway Erasers, 5/$1 Mini Memo or Composition book and .69 school supplies box.  Other favorites include .39 Sharpies, school glue, tab dividers and sheet protectors.  Look for Fiskars Kids Scissors for .99.

If you are here in the Houston area here is the school supply list for Houston ISD.
