I admit, for me the bun is really just something to hold my burger and toppings together. I’m not a big fan of the bun. So when I’m home I tend to leave it to the rest of the family to enjoy. When it came time to enjoy my Tex Mex Burger I decided to lighten things up and little bit and enjoy a Tex Mex Salad with this Tex Mex Salad recipe.
Start with this Tex Mex Burger Recipe.
And you can use shredded cheddar cheese but I used Queso.
Place shredded lettuce (your salad toppings of choice) on plate. Top with your Tex Mex Burger. A dollop of queso on top of the burger and then top with avocado and tomatoes. I used about four tortilla chips crumbled and sprinkled for some crunch and I admit to a teaspoon of salsa and the sour cream to finish it off.
Was it less calories than a burger on a bun? Maybe, and maybe not. Go gluten free and leave off the tortilla chips.
Either way it was delicious!
