We were having such a wonderful time at the Wyndham and having heard so much about the new menu by Executive Chef Justin Strang having dinner anywhere else just didn’t sound appetizing. (No pun intended) Ten Bar and Lounge is conveniently located right next to the pool at the Wyndham so it’s easy to dry off, slip on a a dress and head to the lounge for some fabulous food and dining.
I started off with not only meeting the new Executive Chef Justin Strang (formerly of Houston’s House of Blues and Foundation Room) but also finding out about his brand new menu ideas. What impressed me most was his commitment to creating a unique and diverse menu, freshly prepared and using local ingredients whenever possible. He offered us the opportunity to try something new and only available that night, a Duck Soup. Started off with a pureed Shrimp Bisque this was beyond delicious. Mr. MoneySavingParent devoured his – no seriously I looked up , then down then up again and it was gone!
Chef Justin also was kind enough to talk to my children while we were there. He listened to what they liked and then he and our knowledgeable server helped us make selections. I admit I had two that I really wanted to try and it was very hard to decide.
My youngest went with the Grilled Angus Beef HotDog and then a side of freshly prepared Mac and Cheese. She liked the Mac and Cheese so much she started putting some of the sauce on her hotdog. She said she didn’t want to miss any of it and earnestly recommended to the Chef that he try it too. Note – Mac and Cheese is available on the adult menu but they let us substitute a child size portion for her kid’s meal side.
We were fortunate to talk to the Chef. But I think that the server and bar staff were incredibly knowledgeable too. They even helped make some suggestions for some adult beverages for me and beer for my husband. I opted for the new Pomegranate Martini.
Dinner is served!
Ten Bar and Lounge is very laid back and family friendly. The children are not allowed in the “bar” area but are in the restaurant area. There’s also a lounge area front and back where you can play on your Kindle, catch some critters on Pokemon Go and then a pool table in the back. I recommend leaving before 9 pm especially on Friday and Saturday nights as there is a brisk trade then with people having a drink and coming and going on the shuttle. You can even order your dessert at the table and have it delivered upstairs. That made for a nice way of closing the night out. It created the perfect opportunity to enjoy the movie and remaining American Girl Package surprises in the room with our children.
