This month I took the clean eating and cooking month long challenge with some blogger buddies. Now not everyone has the same thoughts on clean eating so some of use went all out creating even jams and jellies from scratch. Others of use may have used some shortcuts. But one thing we all agreed on was that we wanted to show that real cooking doesn’t have to take a whole lot of time or money.
We all know that we can get a good steak in a restaurant for about 10.99 or higher, and that’s just one meal. But with my healthy eating challenge I created several recipes that made that $10.99 create a steak dinner for all four of us!

Start off with our Crazy Craisin Coleslaw. You make it in approximately 3 minutes. That’s how easy it is. (We will be sharing that recipe too). We did honey roasted red potatoes, with the prep time being approximately 4 minutes and then the oven does the rest. Steaks like the steakhouse makes were picked up at the grocery store and created in approximately 12 minutes.
I started off with our favorite cuts of steak. This will work on any of them. You don’t want too much marble in your meat, but a little bit helps with keeping it juicy when creating the perfect steakhouse style steak.
After washing it off I place it on the cutting board. I used an OXO Good Grips Bladed Meat Tenderizer on both sides of the meat and then sprinkle some freshly ground black pepper, sea salt and garlic powder on the meat.
Heat the skillet and I admit to a dash of olive oil just to make sure that it didn’t stick. Then sear both sides of the meat until browned. Remove from skillet and bake in over the remaining time necessary for your particular type of steak. For me it was approximately 9 minutes to get medium well.
The husband loved them. The daughter braved them even with her braces. The youngest said “Never make another steak again unless you use this recipe!”
It was so easy and made in minutes. While it was baking my salad was tossed and my potatoes where already in the over. Clean eating also made for good eating .
