This holiday season Money Saving Parent and our family were able to join together with several other bloggers from across Texas and Houston to host the Royal Holiday Blogging Event to benefit the Star of Hope.
A huge thank you to the Royal Sonesta for sponsoring and hosting this amazing event. Thanks to their generosity the Houston organization Star of Hope was able to receive over 30 large boxes and bags of critical and ongoing needs, as well as toys to use for their holiday drive.
The Royal Sonesta Houston recently underwent a $25 million dollar renovation and to say that the hotel, restaurant, rooms, lounge and other accommodations and amenities are spectacular, doesn’t say enough. Upon arriving at the Royal Sonesta you can select from valet parking or the self parking garage. You are handsomely greeted at the door with caring and courteous service. Carts are made available to you to take your luggage to your room and even though it was a busy Friday night the check in service was impeccable. They answered all my questions and I was quickly settled into my beautiful, comfortable and elegantly styled room.
My room was the check in point for many of our blogger attendees coming in from across the area and Texas. This meant room service but trust me that was no hardship! My Chicken Club Salad was fresh, crisp and delicious. My daughter loved her hot from the oven sausage pizza (and I admit mom loved one slice of it too!) and crispy Chicken tenders with fries were perfect for the youngest.
After settling in we decide to take a look at the many amenities that the Royal Sonesta has to offer. First, it’s not only beautiful from the crown molding, high ceilings, updated rooms – from ball rooms and banquets to those for overnight but it’s location is just right especially for the holiday season. Just outside my window you could see the Galleria shopping and with a free shuttle service from the hotel to the mall it made it easy on even the coldest of days to take in all the shopping and sites. Of course there are parts of the Galleria you could walk to with Westheimer Rd. just steps away. I would love to be here for the Thanksgiving Holiday Lights display!
Other amenities include Wi-Fi, a business center, complementary newspaper in the morning, pool and fitness center as well as a cafe, boutique shopping, the Ara Restaurant and the Axis Lounge which was home to our holiday celebration.
After a hearty breakfast the we actually shared it was so big, we headed out and about on the town. Upon returning it was time to work with the banquet people to finalize the plans for our donation drive event to benefit Star of Hope. Each step was carefully and professionally thought out from the foods and drinks to be served to the location of our tables, and where our donations would be collected and stored. I so appreciated the final detail or storing our donations overnight so we weren’t trying to load up a van at 9 p.m. If you are planning a special event, I highly recommend consulting them, whether it’s for business or for pleasure.
But don’t think the Royal Sonesta fun is just for those staying there. The Axis Lounge and the Ara Restaurant are available on the first floor and it takes room keys to travel the elevator so those staying have added security. Stop in while shopping or sightseeing and have a drink. Mr. Money Saving Parent was very impressed with their beer selection, as he shares here. My Long Island Iced Tea was done to perfection.
And, it’s not all about the adults. Food selections were made to include our children, as the Royal Sonesta graciously creates a family friendly atmosphere without loosing any of the charm or elegance in the common areas or the rooms. The children were treated graciously, and I was so impressed by that service, possibly most of all.
It was a royal event that’s for sure, from the location to the service to the accommodations. See, even my little princess was ready to sleep tight.
