RA Sushi is one of our family’s favorite restaurants and it’s a rare treat to go there. I admit we usually save it for special occasions. But there’s more to meet the eye this winter, with dishes and drinks to really warm things up. With new specials on Tuesdays as well as Happy Hours, and the new menu I’ve found even more reasons to head to RA Sushi, and make any day (especially Tuesdays) a special one.
Disclosure: I recently had the opportunity to meet with other foodies and try several samples of the new menu items. All opinions expressed are 100% my own (and my daughter’s because I there was no way I was getting to go to this without her – it’s her favorite place).
RA Sushi Bar Restaurant is unveiling a seasonal menu featuring creative appetizers, sushi rolls, entrees, and cocktails, plus new sake. Both Highland Village and CITYCENTRE RA Sushi locations will be serving these new menu items from now through the end of April.
– Highland Village: 3908 Westheimer, 713.621.5800
– CITYCENTRE: 799 Town and Country Blvd., 713.221.7623
The New Menu at RA Sushi
The new menu at RA Sushi includes: Chili Garlic Shrimp, Red Heart Roll, and Crunchy Yami Roll. The updated drink menu has some familiar favorites as well as some new adult beverage options including: The Blue Ginger Martini, Lychee Margarita, the Passion Punch Bowl or the single serving Baby Passion Punch. Two new sake’s are now on the menu for a limited time, TY KU Coconut Sake and the MIO Sparkling Sake.
The Chili Garlic Shrimp is a shareable appetizer, though why I would let anyone have another bite of this spicy shrimp dish which is lightly tempura battered and tossed in a flavorful chili ponzu sauce, served on sautéed garlic and bok choy, then topped with scallions, crunchy garlic chips and crispy ramen noodles, I’ll never know. I do know that 3 our of 5 family members served (when we went back as a family) wanted this dish for their own. The other two – well they don’t do seafood so that would explain why they didn’t want it.
Happy Hour Pricings!

Many will love the brand new Red Heart Roll. It’s Crab mix, fresh avocado and cucumber are rolled and topped with crispy spicy tuna, spicy mayo and Sriracha. My personal favorite new roll is the new Crunchy Yami Roll, It’s a delicious non-traditional sushi option featuring tempura sweet potato, cucumber and avocado, rolled and topped with crunchy shredded sweet potato and spinach tempura bits and served with sweet eel sauce. Yes, you did see the words sweet potato!
The King Crab Salad is tossed with mixed greens, large, tender chunks of king crab, ripe avocado, crunchy cucumber slices, and grape tomatoes, tossed in a Suehiro vinaigrette. For a decadent dish, try the Seared Ahi Tuna seasoned with togarashi and black pepper and served atop grilled asparagus, with a shiitake mushroom cream sauce.

Trust me, there was no way we could get through full size tastings of the newest drink menu, but samples were available. These creative cocktails are each delicious in it’s own way. Among my favorites are the Blue Ginger Martini It’s a a light and refreshing drink with a zing, featuring blueberry and ginger lemonade, blueberry vodka, and muddled blueberries and fresh ginger. For the exotic palette For an exotic cocktail, try the Lychee Margarita, which perfectly combines sweet and tart with lychee juice and fresh lime. A tropical cocktail meant for sharing, the Passion Punch Bowl is a fruity and refreshing drink featuring Amaretto Di Saronno, pineapple vodka, aged rum, passion fruit, pineapple and citrus juices, and coconut water, served in a giant fish bowl. For a single size serving, try the Baby Passion Punch.

I had the opportunity to try one of the flight of The TY KU Coconut Sake which is a premium Nigori sake imported from Nara, Japan, the birthplace of sake. It was silky smooth with the flavors of coconut and hints of vanilla.
I know that RA Sushi has some “ROCKIN'” good desserts, but this time round there just wasn’t any room for them after sipping and sampling.
