While visiting Fort Lauderdale, Florida we were checking out the list of interesting, family friendly activities our helpful host at Pineapple Place gave us and when I saw the opportunity to visit the Barbie Dreamhouse Experience I knew it was something that our girls would absolutely love to do. After all, they did watch the show over and over and over again and own almost all the DVDs. This could be a highlight of their trip!
Disclosure: I was provided with entrance to Barbie Dreamhouse. All other expenses were my own. All opinions expressed are 100% my own and my family’s.
The Barbie Dreamhouse Experience is located in major shopping center in the Sunrise, Florida area. There was plenty of shopping and dining available, but my girls had eyes for nothing but the big pink and white building which was easily found. Entering we are greeted by a helpful staff, all wearing standard Barbie skirts and Barbie Dreamhouse t-shirts. It immediately became clear that my 9 year old could not possibly be deprived of a matching t-shirt to remember her trip by.

A few of our favorite things . . . Barbie Dreamhouse Experience
Our tour guide arrives and the group of us get on the elevator. Up we go to discover each room of the Barbie Dreamhouse. I won’t give it all away, because part of the fun was guessing which room we would see next so I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you. I’ll just share some highlights from our tour:
- virtual baking in Barbie’s kitchen
- karaoke in the game room
- puzzle place and mazes in the game room
- finding the Dolphin (if you have watched the shorts you know what I’m talking about). And, yes it was right where it was in Barbie’s bathroom just like in the movie.
- scavenger hunts in some of the rooms
- the virtual 3D dress up party in Barbie’s closet.
Each room was exactly like the show and the squeals and excitement in some rooms, almost, but not quite overcame the “Life is a Dreamhouse” music.
The virtual 3D dress up party was a BIG hit with all the girls. Our tour let them “try on” several outfits using a holographic image mirror and it was pretty amazing to see which outfits where their favorites.
Another really sweet thing about our helpful tour guide was celebrating those who had a birthday that day, even the ones who didn’t buy the Birthday package with a special birthday greeting and song.
The VIP experience
We opted for the VIP experience because once our girls heard that there was a runway fashion show there really was no stopping them. I blame it entirely on their Model Class/Camp last summer at KVPAC. The VIP experience provides in addition to the tour a chance to explore your inner Barbie by showing it outwardly. No hair styling is available, but the girls were provided with a custom make up session with them selecting the colors they wanted to wear. My older went for the futuristic look looking beautiful in blue, while my younger went for the pretty in pink look.
The girls are then taught a runway walk and taken backstage to select their outfits and accessories. Mom and Dad aren’t permitted backstage so the girls do all the selecting on their own. We had one terrific Texan going on, of course she couldn’t have a fashion show without her cowgirl hat!
Three pictures are taken during the fashion show and one is provided to you compliments of the VIP package. Can’t decide on just one? You can purchase additional pictures. Your pictures are placed in a really nice carry “case” envelope complete with more fun Barbie games and trivia to play.
