I’m not the type who needs a large number of shoes, but I do agree that it’s nice to have enough choices to suit most needs or occasions. So, when I was presented with an opportunity to get a new pair of shoes from Lugz, I jumped at the chance. The choices were many, but I finally decided on Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes for Men in Mocha/Cream/Gum color.
Out of the Box
Taking a look at Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes reveals a shoe that is quality in build and attractive in style. These shoes have an upper back made from Nuback leather than extends above the ankle. The soles are synthetic and the padded tongue and collar offer ankle support. A nylon fabric lining means a little more room for breathing and an EVA cushioned footbed adds comfort to each step. The heel is about 1.25 inches in height and the platform is 0.75 inches in height. The shoes are offered in an assortment of colors that range from cream to tan to black.
Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes are an attractive pair of shoes. Ideal for hiking, winter walking, work, or casual use, these shoes are more rugged than the typical dress shoe and sturdier and better looking than the typical casual shoe. They feature a military design and they are sturdy enough to hold up against a more rigorous workout while still maintaining a casual look and feel.
I selected Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes based on appearance alone. Let’s face it- they do have an interesting look that will set them apart from most shoes in your closet. They aren’t really boots in the strict sense because they do not extend up above the ankle very far. But they are classified as such because they cover the ankles and this adds to their appearance and initial appeal.
Time for a Walk
Okay, so the shoes look good, but what about comfort and performance? In the area of comfort, this shoe does rank better than average. I like the ease of taking them off and putting them off and this is aided by the hooks at the top, where you usually find a pair of eyelets. With the hooks, you can quickly undo the shoe strings at the top so it is faster to put them on and remove them when needed. I also like that I can feel some movement of air through the shoes because that means it’s easier to stay cool. I admit that it did take time to get used to feeling the top part rubbing against my ankles, but once I got accustomed to it, I found it perfectly fine and I liked the added protection.
As for performance, Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes can easily handle the elements and the sole offers good traction. They seem made to last, but one possible issue I have is their tendency to squeak. It was really bad when I first wore the shoes, but I did notice that it became less noticeable with repeated wearing. If you try different types of socks you can lessen the squeakiness but the squeak doesn’t completely go away. Another potential issue is the tendency of this leather area around the ankle to become marred. If something sharp rubs against it, it could leave a permanent mark that will not go away. The material that comprises the bulk of the shoe can also become stained, so you need to be careful where you step.
A Shoe for You
Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes are a good shoe with an attractive appearance and nice style. Don’t buy these shoes if you need to be able to sneak up on people because the constant squeaking will give you away. But as long as you can tolerate the noise and the possibility of a nick or two showing up on the leather section around the ankles, then you should find Lugz Drifter Mid Shoes a shoe to your liking. They look nice, feel nice, have good traction, and can be worn to work or school. Add up the pros and cons and you have a good shoe that most men will find to their liking.
Note: I received a complimentary pair of these shoes for review purposes
