Have you ever wished that you could just skip grocery shopping? I know that after my knee replacement surgery, one thing that we needed a little help with was someone to do the grocery shopping. Sure, my oldest daughter or husband could go but they had their own job and school and responsibilities to see to. Doing the grocery shopping from my list not only took time away from the other things we needed to do but was a problem since I frequently knew exactly what we needed, for example certain name brands. My family had not really paid attention to what I use when I cook beyond the basics. For example they may not know that it was Skinner Texas Shape pasta which I used in my Sweet Italian Sausage and Pepper Tex-Italiano Recipe. That’s when we discovered the joys of being able to use Instacart and having my groceries delivered to my home.
Instacart
I thought Instacart would be hard and that I wouldn’t be able to find the groceries I am looking for but it is SO easy! Simply include your zip code and it will let you know the grocery stores in your area that they deliver from. In my area of Houston, they provide delivery from HEB, Whole Foods, Costco, Petco, CVS and even Specs! All my party planning food and beverage shopping done with the push of a few buttons on the keyboard.
Simply sign in using your email address or one of your social media accounts. Select the items you need from your own list, sales items from the store or suggestions. Add them to your cart. You may add and save your credit card number or input it each time. Select when you want your delivery window to be and place your order. You can choose a one time delivery fee or select a period of time for deliveries.
You receive an email confirmation of your order as well as email and text updates (should you select that option) as to when your shopper begins shopping for you, if they need to make substitutions, which you can allow or not as you decide and when they are on their way to deliver. They even bring the groceries into the house for you! It only took a minute because they have these amazing special bags which allow them to carry in a whole bunch of groceries at the same time. These bags also keep the cold things cold so you don’t need to worry about that.
Want to save some time and money and give Instacart a try? Here’s how you can.
In honor of National Friendship Day, Skinner is partnering with Instacart to provide free grocery delivery for customers only in Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Just buy one (1) package of Skinner pasta and get free grocery delivery. Customers who don’t qualify for free delivery (e.g. Instacart Express Customers or first time customers) will receive $5 off their order. Delivery must be $35 or more to quality for free delivery or $5 off.
Sweet Italian Sausage and Pepper Tex-Italiano Recipe
I placed my order from my conference in Las Vegas last week. I did it from the comfort of my hotel room so the grocery shopping for the week would already be done when I returned. I know I would need that time to recover from a red eye flight, travel and to catch up on things after a busy weekend away from the kids. Not to mention it is my daughter’s birthday this week. Time is one thing I didn’t have in abundance. Making sure to put Skinner pasta in my cart, I was able to get my delivery free – which makes my husband very happy! And he was pretty happy there was food in the house. I won’t give you my entire grocery list but I will give you the ingredients to my Sausage and Pepper Tex-Italiano Recipe. After all we have Tex-Mex – why not Tex-Italiano?
Ingredients
1 12 oz package of Skinner Texas Shape pasta
1 12 oz package of Skinner Trio Italiano pasta
1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce (ours is the one with garlic)
1 lb Sweet Italian Sausage (for our family of 6 this evening)
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
1 quarter of an onion
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
sprig of Italian parsley
1 tsp EVOO
Instructions
Cook 1 12 oz package of Skinner Texas Shape pasta and 6 ounces of Skinner Trio Italiano pasta according to package instructions.
Warm EVOO in skillet and cook peppers, onions, and sweet Italian sausage thoroughly. Start with slow cook with lid, then take lid off a little high cook to give it some sizzle on the sausage and then return to low cook with the lid on. I like to do this to make sure that it has a great texture and flavor by cooking together.
Turn heat to low and add your favorite pasta sauce. Ours is heavy on garlic and my daughter came downstairs with her boyfriend commenting, “Oh mom it smells so good we could smell it all the way upstairs. When’s dinner?”
Let sauce warm while you toss a quick salad and add garlic bread in the oven.
Strain pasta and rinse with cold water and strain again.
Top pasta with sauce, a little cheese and a sprig of Italian parsley. It’s fast, easy, comforting and the kids have so much fun seeing the state of Texas shaped pasta with their Italian trio of pasta. Oh and of course our sausage was “made in Texas too!
Skinner pasta is the #1 pasta in Texas. How could you not love Skinner Texas Shape pasta? But of course there are also lots of other shapes but all with the same great taste. It’s so easy to cook that my daughter even cooks the pasta. She thinks it is fun. There’s also little packaging to dispose of!
I still enjoy going to the grocery store. I LIKE picking out the meats and fresh produce. However, Instacart does provide a valuable service. It provides me with more time with my family. Instead of going to the grocery I could take the kids swimming this summer. Instead of grocery shopping I could get things ready for friends to come over. My groceries would be delivered and I could get started on the food preparation. It provides me the one thing I can’t get back once it is gone – time.
