Houston YMCA’s Annual Operation Backpack gets support from Luby’s and Fuddruckers

Isn’t this amazing!  These two Houston area restaurants,  Fuddruckers and Luby’s, will each host a Spirit Night this summer to raise awareness and funds for YMCA’s Operation Backpack program.  During these evenings, 10% of all restaurant sales will be donated to secure school supplies for underprivileged children around the city.

Additionally, over the last weekend of the program, collection boxes will be available for school supplies donations at any Fuddruckers or Luby’s location in Greater Houston.

This year’s Operation Backpack aims to provide 45,000 students with backpacks full of school supplies to kick off the fall semester.

WHEN:

  • Thursday, July 19 – Fuddruckers Spirit Night from 4 until 8 pm at Fuddruckers locations
  • Friday, August 10 – Luby’s Spirit Night from 4 until 8 pm at Luby’s locations
  • August 10 – 12 school supply drive at both restaurants

WHERE:            All Houston-area Fuddruckers and Luby’s locations

WHY:               Each year, thousands of Houston-area children will start school without the basic tools they need to succeed.  Items like paper, pencils and a backpack to carry them in can be expensive for many families struggling to make ends meet.  YMCA Operation Backpack, which takes place from July 19 through August 12, has the potential to change that for thousands of Houston-area families this school year.

In 2011, the 7th Annual YMCA Operation Backpack collected 18,000 backpacks and 245,680 school supplies, impacting nearly 42,568 children and their families.  Making an investment in the lives of our children is a great way to give back to the Houston community.

Will you be out and about on these days doing your back to school shopping?  Why not pick up an extra item or two to donate to this really important effort?
