I recently had the opportunity to visit Massage Envy Spa and find out more about their partnership with the Arthritis Foundation and how they share a common understanding on the effects of arthritis on the body and the potential for massage therapy to relieve and control symptoms. Now, Massage Envy Spa is a national sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk to Cure Arthritis events throughout the country as well as the host of Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one day, in-clinic nationwide event.

Massage Envy Spa created Healing Hands for Arthritis in 2011, an annual one-day national event to benefit the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to prevent, control and cure arthritis. Since 2011, Massage Envy Spa has raised more than $2 million in three Healing Hands for Arthritis events to help the 50 million Americans, including 300,000 children affected by the disease. This year’s one-day goal for Healing Hands for Arthritis is to raise $1 million at Massage Envy Spa’s more than 1,000 clinics in 49 states. This annual event is being held on Sept. 17, 2014!
According to the CDC and National Health Interview Survey 22.2% of adults reported arthritis, it’s prevalence increased with age and was higher among women than in men in every age group. Did you catch that? 1 in 5 people have some form of arthritis. Massage Envy Spa has a step by step guide to insure you receive quality and professional care as well as know what to expect on your first visit.
Step 1: Meet and Greet – Meet the staff, grab your paperwork and fill it out. They will inquire about the reason for your visit as well as your current physical condition. I love the quiet and well appointed room, as well as the quietly playing music and offers of water.
Step 2: You will meet your massage therapist and be taken to a spa-like treatment room with a comfy massage table with a warming blanket and clean sheets await your arrival. There will also be a shelf for your personal belongings. Your massage therapist will then leave the room, wait for you to disrobe (however you’re comfortable) and then knock to see if you’re ready.
Step 3: During your massage your therapist will ask you to alert them if any stroke they are using is uncomfortable. Be honest as this is an important part in you feeling better.
Step 4: You’re now finished and the therapist will leave so you can get dressed. The therapist will then meet you with a bottle of water for you to enjoy and instructions on how to proceed with your day.
It’s that easy to feel better and healthier and to do something good for someone else’s health too.
