Want to make a cute candy container to give to the teacher? Or maybe just an adorable decoration for your entry way or kitchen table? We had so much fun making this Halloween recycled can craft, Mummy, Daddy and Me together and it was so easy!
You will most likely be able to make this with things you have around the house, that may be the best party of these quick and easy Halloween craft.
Use an aluminum can that has been washed, dried and the label removed. The best kind are those that have the pop top lid like for Dole Pineapple or Soup cans, because they you don’t have to worry about cut fingers and sharp edges.
Grab your gauze bandages, while liquid glue and some wiggly eyes. These are from Oriental Trading and have adhesive on the back, but I added some glue just in case.
Cut the gauze into long strips which you will be able to wrap around the can.
I used a paper bag for our work space to keep the glue from going everywhere.
Place your hand inside the can and spread liquid glue around one half of the can – facing you. It will leak and slide, but if you turn the can it will coat it, if not it will just drop on your workspace.
Next wrap gauze around the can several times. Twist and turn and the messier the better!
Push down a little spot so that your eyes can attach to the metal of the can and glue them on. Then pull the gauze up a little bit so they have the effect of mummy wrapping around the face.
Now, most mummies don’t have lips that we get to see, but the girls wanted one to be the “mommy” so had to find a way to set her apart. You don’t want to know what she looked like with yarn hair!
And that’s it. Fun, easy, free (practically) and a cute decoration for any room in the house or for a great gift holder.
