Modern technology continues to advance. This is true not just with computers and internet, but also with manufacturing and America’s automakers are at the forefront of technological change and adaptation. Taking the lead is Ford Motor Company and its leadership in manufacturing technology was on full display at the North American International Auto Show, NAIAS, held at Detroit’s Cobo Center.
Money Saving Parent was invited to attend the NAIAS 2015 as part of the special press preview on January 12 and 13, 2015. For those who haven’t attended the show before, let me tell you that the presentation is nothing short of impressive. With over 500 vehicles on display, the NAIAS is the premiere showcase for new vehicles and most every known manufacturer across the globe had a presence somewhere on the showroom floor.
Vehicle manufacturers continue to impress with their utilization of technology and as I walked around the NAIAS, this fact was obvious. Some automakers displayed new vehicles with improved fuel efficiency. Others went for the performance edge, showing how their vehicle was tops in its class for handling and driving ability. The Ford/Lincoln section at the NAIAS was easily the most impressive of all and it spotlighted vehicles with an emphasis on Ford’s EcoBoost technology, fuel efficiency, earth- friendly driving, etc.
New Vehicles, Large and Small
Possibly the number one highlight for Ford Motor fans was the unveiling of brand new vehicles for the first time. Ford car/truck highlights included:
- Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R
- Ford F150 Raptor
- Ford Focus RS
- Ford GT
Among the above, the one that wowed the crowd the most was the Ford GT. It’s a carbon fiber supercar meant to compete with the European- built luxury sports cars. It was made visible to the public for the first time at the NAIAS 2015 and attendees couldn’t get enough. Its sleek appearance and performance capabilities made it the talk of the show. I was there when the vehicle was unveiled for the first time, on stage at a pre- NAIAS event. After it was displayed and Ford management spoke a little bit about it and its features, they opened the floor for anyone to walk down and see the Ford GT up close. It was like scene from a Hollywood premiere as media people poured onto the stage, swooning and snapping pictures every step of the way.
Education and More
Like with any auto show, the NAIAS is not without its educational moments. Ford CEO Mark Fields made himself readily available, both to talk about the featured 2015 vehicles and answer questions about Ford and its commitment to the industry. Other Ford personnel and industry personalities held informal talks, discussing technology and its importance to the future of the automotive world. Live entertainment, a few special guests, and food/drink made the show complete.
Ford Steals the Show
Ford has shown, once again, that it will never be content settling for second best. Its lineup of new vehicles is among the finest around, with a portfolio of vehicles that easily rank at or near the top in their respective classes. Technology is the key and with Ford’s EcoBoost and other engineering and technological advances, Ford Motor easily steals the show at the 2015 NAIAS, raising the bar and challenging other automakers with some of the best engineering achievements ever witnessed in the automotive industry. All I can say is, I can’t wait for NAIAS 2016!
