I can’t tell you how excited I am about the remake of “Murder on the Orient Express.” I first fell in love with Agatha Christie mysteries in my teen years. My grandmother introduced me to them. Every time I would visit I would leave with a bag full of books to read. She shared my love of reading and would save everything she read to pass on to me. I was introduced to the intrepid and interesting detective character Hercule Poirot along with Christie’s other “detective” Ms. Marple. That’s not all she introduced to me including Condensed Readers Digest, and my ongoing love of (gasp!) Victorian Era/Historical Romances which used to be hidden in my room just in case mom might find them. I was pretty sure she wouldn’t be too happy about what she would have considered entirely inappropriate love scenes. I’ve enjoyed the previous version of Murder on the Orient Express as part of a literature class so can’t wait for this star studded remake by one of my favorite directors Kenneth Branagh. I mean this is the director who helped foster my love of Shakespeare with movies like Much Ado About Nothing (yes I’m that English lit major with my nose always buried in a book or watching the book made into a movie) or more recently you may recognize him from “Thor,” “Cinderella,” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”
What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told “Murder on the Orient Express” tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone’s a suspect and clues are everywhere. Kenneth Branagh directs and leads an all-star cast including: Tom Bateman, Kenneth Branagh, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Marwan Kenzari, Olivia Colman, Lucy Boynton, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Sergei Polunin.
