Living in Houston, Texas means I don’t get a whole lot of changing of the seasons. It only snows about once every five years. There’s palm trees decorated with holiday lights. Thanksgiving doesn’t bring with it colorful fallen leaves – though there are plenty of fallen leaves! Given the great outdoors, I admit that sometimes it’s hard to get in the holiday spirit. But there is one thing that really helps me get in the holiday spirit and that is the scents. I love the scents of apples baking, fresh pine, vanilla is so relaxing and it brings back all the memories of my youth of hot chocolates and snow as well as the scent of fresh pine tree for Christmas. That’s why I’m SO EXCITED to share with you the new Febreze Holiday Collection!
Febreze Holiday Collection
Available at Walmart this holiday collection not only offers up the chance to scent my home with my favorite holiday smells like Frosted Pine, Apple Tart, Toasted Almond, Vanilla Latte, and Sugared Cranberry, but it also inspires me to do a little something to get the holiday started. It could be because Febreze also offers up some amazing ideas on the collection box from apple tart recipes to instructions for a coffee scrub, mitten ornament and table top trees.
Personally I enjoy the variety of scents and have one in the entry way but another in the family room. One is upstairs but they all compliment each other nicely.
How do you use scents in your home?
The apple tart scent got me thinking about a quick and easy Apple Crisp I used to make all the time and hadn’t made in ages. I don’t know why because it only takes minutes to create!
1 8×8 baking pan
1 can (15 oz) apple pie filling
1 box of yellow cake mix (you can use one box of the small cake mix like Jiffy or about half of a regular box mix)
1 stick of butter melted
Spray non stick cooking spray around edges of baking pan.
Add pie filling
Top with 1/2 of regular box of yellow cake mix (dry)
Pour melted butter over mix
Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for approximately 20 – 30 minutes – oven times vary – until bubble, and golden crisp.
Top with whipped cream or ice cream. Your guests won’t know you didn’t slave for hours in the kitchen cooking up this recipe!
