The kids and I love to hang out in the kitchen and of course it’s easy to get them in there when I means there are sweet treats involved! They were so proud of their “monsterous” creations, though they said mine looked more like a Turkey- so maybe I’ll bring the recipe back again for Thanksgiving.
Start with a flat baking sheet, a regular size bag of Rollo candy, six smaller sized apples, some waxed paper and cooking spray as well as craft sticks. These actually came from the “caramel apple kit” at the grocery store.
Place waxed paper over baking pan and spray lightly with cooking spray. I did it a little heavy here so you can see.
Wash and dry apples.
In double broiler melt the unwrapped Hershey Rollo candies and add approximately 2 tablespoons of milk. Stir frequently to get it rich and creamy when melted. Insert sticks into apples and then roll apples in the melted chocolate. Allow to drip some and then use the flat end of a knife to remove extra from the bottom – though we didn’t do that to all of them, the kids liked the extra ooze on their apple.
Set on waxed paper and let cool. Place in fridge to chill for about 10 minutes. When you remove the chocolate will still be sticky but it’s the perfect time to decorate. We used candy corn, chocolate sprinkles and these cute candy eyes!
Some were spooky, some were silly, we even had a “spider” with 8 eyes. But no matter what they all tasted GREAT!
