For my daughter’s birthday we were visiting The Woodlands, TX. She got to choose where she would like to go for lunch and hearing about California Pizza Kitchen she decided on there. I was thrilled because I love their Thai Chicken Pizza, but we got more than we bargained for when we headed there as they have a whole new look and a whole new menu.

Don’t let the outside fool you at California Pizza Kitchen The Woodlands location. The building goes back to a beautiful patio which features fountains. Mr. Money Saving Parent found it a great place to relax a minute and have a beer.
We were surprised at the new menu. There were so many choices to make, and it’s not just any old pizza joint. We started off with the Lobster Flatbread Pizza and one of their signature cocktails for an appetizer. I personally think the Lobster Flatbread should be available ALL the time. It was full of lobster bites (not bits), creamy sauce and beautifully decorated. The new Sangria was delicious.
After spending some time with the menu we made our choices. From the kids menu, the littles chose Macaroni and Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza. Dad went with the Steak (yes they now have steak!) while I went with the and my oldest selected the Chicken. Of course I had to take a bite of everything, but I admit, that while I loved my pasta with the steak, oh the steak was mouthwatering good. I haven’t had a steak that good in a long time. A light butter sauce and the sides of salad and potatoes and that was all this meal needed to be perfection.
My Jambalaya Fettucine was full of flavor and just the right amount of spice. It had more than enough shrimp, sausage and chicken for two meals. I could have shared it, but I didn’t really want to.

Since it was my daughter’s birthday she was able to chose her dessert. California Pizza Kitchen actually already had a sundae ready to surprise her with but when she found out about Red Velvet Cake (her favorite) it was all over. That’s okay, her younger sister was able to take care of the Ice Cream Sundae!
A few of my favorite things about California Pizza Kitchen:
- Fresh and whenever possible locally sourced foods
- A brand new look that is fun and it’s eco-friendly too! I found out about the wall tiles made with recycled skateboards and the reclaimed wood used throughout the building.
- They also have sports and birthday pizza parties now available – and it is really reasonably priced!
- The food was delicious. You could tell it was freshly made and each and every meal which our party ordered was cooked and presented to perfection.
- A brand new menu selection. You can take a look at it here, and I was impressed to also see gluten free choices!
It’s so hard to find a place where you can get the quality of fine dining (like the steak and lobster) yet the relaxed atmosphere needed for the family to relax and enjoy. The seating was comfortable for our whole party and the music was fun and upbeat. I’m glad that there is a California Pizza Kitchen nearby available for dine in, carry out and catering so I don’t have to wait a couple of hours to enjoy eating there again.
