Disclosure: I participated in the free trial of the Bookboard app and received compensation for this review. However, all opinions are 100% my own and my family’s.
This summer has been slightly challenging when it comes to get the children to read. The thing is they love to read. They love to go to the library to check out books. The problem is finding time to get to the library and stay there around two hours while they “shop” as well as of course attend a workshop. The other problem is trying to remember to take the books BACK to the library! I was thrilled to learn about a new app that the kids can use on the iPad that makes reading a whole lot more fun (and easier on mom).
Bookboard is a app which offers children the opportunity to have access to a digital library with over 400 books to choose from. As your child reads, they “unlock” more opportunities to read, receiving a new book from the library as a reward. It’s so easy!
First I visited my iPad store and downloaded my free trial. I have to admit there are a few extra steps to this process but I also understand that they really are doing it to make sure to protect my privacy and to ensure that the app is one that I want.
Next I set up each account, one for each of my children under the age of 12 and one for mom so I can see how well they are doing. Within minutes my kids were enjoying their free trial of library books. Just minutes later I receive my notice that my daughter has unlocked a new book to read. Just days after installing my daughter has read ALL the books available in the free trial – they have barely put the iPad down!

If you like me, find that the free trial was a hit (my children declared it “fun” and “awesome”) you will want to upgrade your program to one of two plans. The six month plan is $4.99/month and the monthly plan is $8.99/month. Plans give you access to over 400 books to read, audio books that read to your children, offline storage and a tracking system to tell you how well your children are succeeding in their reading goals. You can even do up to FOUR kids on one account. I think I may be spending more than that on late fees at the library this week!
Want to try your own free trial? I hope that your kids go through the books available as fast as mine did! But the quiet was nice while it lasted. Visit Bookboard.com to see a quick demo and to sign up for your free trial then grab you iPad and read.
Enjoy this sneak peek at one of the libraries!
