If you can’t say something nice then don’t say nothing at all. But I do have something nice to say! Bambi celebrates 75 years with this amazing anniversary edition now available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD. My daughters and I recently watched the movie. For them it was the very first time. For me it is one which I remember watching as a child, again with my older children and now have the joy of sharing it with my youngest children.
If you have seen the movie, and you probably recognize it is one of the most iconic Disney full length feature films. Yyou will in this anniversary edition recognize the beauty of the artwork you may not have appreciated as fully as a child. My daughter said it reminded her of art class where she blended different types of art – both sketching and watercolor. I think our families favorite part of the movie was the rain drops falling with the magical music playing. The artwork was so beautiful and matched so wonderfully with the music. My artistic daughter enjoyed the movie simply because of the beauty!
My younger daughter on the other hand was more interested in the environmental aspects of the movie. We had discussions about “man coming into the forest” as well as the pros and cons of hunting. Grandpa who is an avid hunter helped out explaining that not only is it needed where he lives as the deer population has exploded but that it is used for food – not just for the family but also donated to food banks where he lives. So you can see that family movie night isn’t just watching a movie but can spark some really interesting discussions.

Disney’s Bambi, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection. The timeless tale features an adorable young deer named Bambi who explores the wonders and challenges of the woods with his playful pal Thumper, the lovable skunk Flower, and wise Friend Owl – and ultimately fulfills his destiny as prince of the forest.
The Collection release includes a variety of new bonus material, including recordings of Walt Disney discussing the challenges and triumphs during the production of “Bambi;” deleted scenes and characters; stories and effects that “Bambi” had on the Studio, other films and artists; and much, much more. Additionally, the Digital HD release includes an exclusive, heartfelt feature on the incredible artist, Tyrus Wong, who inspired the film’s soft watercolor backgrounds and beautiful palette.
When the menu first appeared we were uncertain where to start first. We started with the “Disney View” version, however, the family changed their mind about that quickly and switched to (what is to our eyes) the more pleasing theatrical version.
But don’t just take that blu-ray out of the player when the movie is done! There’s still so much more to do and see!
